What is a Metal?

A metal is a substance that is very hard and it is very difficult to break the bonds formed by the metals with other elements. It forms cations by losing electrons.

Like Na loses its valence electron to form Na+ ion.

Those cations are further used to make the bonds thereby forming the molecules or compounds.

They are good conductors of heat and electricity.

Generally, metals are solid at room temperature. Mercury is liquid which is exceptional.

Alloys are mixtures, where at least one part of the mixture is a metal.

Examples of metals are aluminum, copper, iron, tin, gold, lead, silver, titanium, uranium, and zinc.

Examples of alloys are bronze and steel.

Metal and metal never react, they simply combine in a proportion to form an alloy.
