What is gas?

Gas is one of the three main states of matter. It is made up of atoms, and molecules that move faster and further away as compared to other states of matter, which enables gas to fill a container evenly.

It has no fixed shape and volume. A gas simply takes the shape and size of the container in which it is kept. The particles of the matter are loosely packed and hence the particles can not take a stationary position.

As soon as the particles of the gas get the energy, they get excited and immediately try to move. As a result, it expands and takes the maximum volume available.

Charles Law

According to Charles Law, the volume of a given gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature.

An increase in temperature increases the kinetic energy of the molecules of the gas and as a result, the molecules of the gas occupy a large volume or it can be said that the gas molecules expand over the larger space.
